Abstract : Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of external application of traditional Chinese medicine combined with Fonow ointment (Compound polymyxin B ointment, Chinese version of Neosporin) in the treatment of herpes zoster. Methods: 72 patients with herpes zoster who visited the outpatient clinic of our department from June 2017 to June 2019 were randomly divided into two groups, with 36 cases in the treatment group and 36 cases in the control group. Both groups were given basic treatments such as oral antiviral drugs to nourish the nerves and oral Chinese medicines. In addition to the basic treatment, the treatment group used our hospital's self-prepared Sanhuang ointment, analgesic ointment, and Qingdai ointment for external application combined with external compound polymyxin B. Ointment, the control group was given external application of acyclovir ointment in addition to basic treatment. The clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of the two groups were compared after 1 week. Results: The VAS score and clinical efficacy of the treatment group were better than those of the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). No obvious toxic or side effects were found in either group. Conclusion : External application of traditional Chinese medicine combined with Fonow ointment (Compound polymyxin B ointment, Chinese version of Neosporin) has significant efficacy in the treatment of herpes zoster and is worthy of clinical promotion.
